| Safety Education and Training
Each department within the University should establish a continuous
safety training program designed to instruct employees in the general
policies covered by this manual, applicable external regulations, and
departmental policies and procedures for specific tasks.
Training Assistance
The EHS office maintains an up-to-date library of safety publications,
videos, and reference materials from such sources as the National Safety
Council, the National Fire Protection Association, the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, and the safety programs of other universities.
These materials and training aids are available to all departments and
members of the University. Brief training programs are available on general
topics such as:
Fire Safety
Hazard Communication/Right-To-Know
Use of fire extinguishers
Office Safety
First Aid
New Employee Safety Orientation
Accident Prevention
Regulatory Compliance
Ergonomics
Personal Protective Equipment
*Other topics by request*
Although training materials are available for topics in technical areas
such as chemical hygiene, machine guarding, or the hazards specific to a
particular job, training in these areas should be conducted by supervisory
personnel within the department. With enough advance notice, arrangements
can be made to provide knowledgeable speakers in any safety-related field.
Contact the EHS office if assistance is needed with developing departmental
training programs.
Purchase and Design of Safety Equipment
On request the EHS Coordinator will assist any department with
determining the need for specific types of safety equipment such as apparel
or storage containers, and provide source and standards information.
