| Noise and Hearing Conservation
Continued exposure to noise of sufficient intensity may result in hearing
impairment. If an individual must raise his voice to communicate with
someone nearby due to noise, it is likely that the level of this noise may
be of sufficient amplitude to cause hearing loss. Persons exposed to noise
levels exceeding 85dBA should be issued hearing protectors. These protectors
should be comfortable to wear and offer sufficient attenuation to prevent
hearing loss. Employees should be instructed in the use and care of their
protectors and they should be periodically monitored on the job to ensure
that they continue to use them correctly. Supervisors should identify
employees who require hearing protection. Sound level meters are available
from the EHS office.
